OUTREACH PROJECT “FREUD IN A CHANGING WORLD: PSYCHOANALYSIS AND CONTEMPORARY PROBLEMS”.
The outreach project “Freud in a changing world: psychoanalysis and contemporary problems” was born five years ago by an idea of two young italian analysts, Luca Nicoli and Stefano Tugnoli, sharing the desire to achieve a psychoanalytic divulgation.
Initially supported by IPSO and by the Municipality of Castelfranco Emilia (a small town near to Bologna, in the north of Italy), a first calendar of eight free public speeches in the local public library, one every two weeks, was organized in 2009-2010. The topics were love addiction, panic disorders, relationship between parents and sons, suicidal behaviours, psychoanalysis as therapy. The speakers were candidates and young analysts of the Italian Psychoanalytical Society (SPI).
From the beginning the public has been significant, with over 100 people every evening: students, old and young couples, teachers, nurses and colleagues, everybody very curious and active.
In the following years new editions have confirmed the good response of the initiative, enriched by the presence among the guests of important and prestigious psychoanalysts, including IPA president Stefano Bolognini. The number of participants has increased, and in the last two years it has reached more than 250 people for each conference.
The 2013 edition ended with a small “Psychoanalytic Festival”, with posters, videos, meetings between local analysts and people taking part to the event and, finally, a lecture about parenthood. Among the topics proposed in the last two editions: adolescence and sexuality, guilt and shame, identity and otherness, communication between parents and children, self confidence in the age of crisis.
The initiative is now supported by the Italian Psychoanalytical Society and by the Psychoanalytic Center of Bologna.
